Though I am not a native of North Carolina, I am someone who benefited from having school meals every day! If it were not for the school programs that provided meals at school, that would have been another expense my mother would have incurred. Though I was young when my parents divorced, I remember my mom having to receive food assistance early on. As I got older, I saw that my mother, a school teacher, would often use her own money to buy snacks and food to keep in her classroom for children who did not have anything to eat. This is my story and unfortunately not unique to me or to North Carolina. There are many children and families that are food insecure and in need of help. This is why the Community Health Coalition and I support SMFA NC!
